San Antonio-based ChicaGirl magazine has launched an apparel line that will produce these whimsical knee-high socks — moños attached.

They’re called ScholarSox, and they’re definitely Catholic schoolgirlish, a nod to CEO and founder Toni Lee Jimenez’s own Catholic school education. The native San Antonian is a graduate of Incarnate Word High School.

Marketed for school, dances, softball and cheerleading, the socks will debut 12 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, at Moda Mia Boutique, 10003 N.W. Military Hwy. You can purchase them online at scholarsox.com or at Moda Mia. They retail for $14.99, plus shipping and taxes. Monogramming is available for an additional $15.

A portion of the sales will benefit the ScholarSox for Education Program, which provides scholarships for pre-K through high school students attending Catholic, private and non-private schools, Jimenez said. In July, ChicaGirl presented its first donation to the Archdiocese of San Antonio’s Hope for the Future, a press release from the magazine said. Jimenez said the company has a partnership with Hope for the Future,  and those scholarships are allocated to San Antonio Catholic schools.

The company said it has awarded $250,000 in all.

ChicaGirl magazine was founded in 2007 (it was initially sued by Latina magazine for its first name, LaTEENa Girls magazine). ChicaGirl distinguishes itself by only featuring real girls on its covers. It’s sold in H-E-B stores in San Antonio, Edinburg and Corpus Christi, and CVS and Walgreens stores in San Antonio.

Jimenez is a graduate of Loyola Marymount University, where she earned a bachelor’s in business management and entrepreneurship. In 2012, she received its Hilton Distinguished Entrepreneur Award.

(SAN ANTONIO, TX - August 3, 2015) CHICAGIRL Magazine is pleased to announce the release of its new apparel division, SCHOLAR SOX, at their Pink Carpet 'Back to School' Trunk Show at Moda Mia Boutique on Saturday, August 8, 2015. SCHOLAR SOX are super cute knee-high socks with bows...a smart & fashionable way to support education! We give back a portion of all our proceeds to scholarships with our SCHOLAR SOX for Education Program. SCHOLAR SOX dedicates itself to ensuring that all students have access to education by providing scholarships for pre-K through high school students. What a great idea! Look fashionable, while giving back to education.

SCHOLARSOX.com officially went live in January of this year and has been creating quite the buzz in both the fashion industry and the school scene. SCHOLAR SOX are playful knee-high socks with bows and are perfect for school, dance, softball, cheerleading and so much more. We chose the name “SCHOLAR” SOX because it perfectly reflects both our unique product and our mission of awarding “SCHOLAR”ships every year though our SCHOLAR SOX for Education Program.

SCHOLAR SOX has already made a strong impact on the local community. We were so honored to award our first check on July 2, 2015 to Hope for the Future, a non-profit organization in San Antonio, Texas. SCHOLAR SOX is dedicated to awarding scholarships every year to help young students in their pursuit of high quality education.

"Through CHICAGIRL Magazine we've been awarding college scholarships for eight years and with SCHOLAR SOX, we're extending our reach," says Senior VP Mei-Lon Jimenez. "We recognize that the foundation that leads to success in higher education is built early and we want to help young students build on that foundation. We couldn't be more excited about the public debut of SCHOLAR SOX at our upcoming trunk show."

Please join us at the trunk show on Saturday August 8, 2015 at Moda Mia Boutique to pick out your SCHOLAR SOX, and visit www.SCHOLARSOX.com for information about future events and our upcoming “Fashion Show” launch party coming soon. (Facebook/Twitter/Instagram: @scholarsox)
